First Fixes in Halifax

by by Andrew Canning

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how things are going with the fixie/courier scene in Nova Scotia.
This spring saw two of the five couriers in Halifax go fixie (one on a track bike, with front brake,) and me with a converted Peugot Urbano I found in the attic of our local bike shop. It was originally a touring bike, but with brake posts and horizontal drops I was running it single speed. Then one of the other couriers found (from your website) the NYCbikes cheap ($18 American) flipflop hubs.
They work great!
Been two weeks now and I am really loving the feeling of fixed gear riding! Halifax is a fairly hilly city and I was really unsure of the not being able to stop pedalling, but as I have gotten better I realize that I am hardly touching the brakes, even on the steepest descents!
I can't begin to tell you how much your site and the advice learned from it, have helped.
Thanks a bunch!
